About Above
2D Animation, 1’47”, 2024
This is a story about the above.
This film is inspired by the observation of a swallow’s nest outside my home: from watching the fledglings learn to fly to the emptiness left in their wake, and the unexpected reappearance of eggshells months later. These experiences led me to continuously reflect on the meaning of "leaving" and "reunion." As I eventually moved away from that home, this animation evolved into more than just a record of the birds' migration—it captures the complex shift in identity from a "stayer" who waits, to one who "departs." Through this narrative on impermanence, the work commemorates those brief but warm companionships, and explores how we might learn to live with the uncertainty and loneliness inherent in the inevitable farewells of life.
